Northwind Reading Series: Dan Chaon and Jourdan Imani Keith

On Wednesday, July 19, Northwind Reading Series in partnership with Port Townsend Writers' Conference presents Dan Chaon and Jourdan Imani Keith.  The readings start at 7 p.m. in Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

Dan Chaon is the acclaimed author of Among the Missing, which was a finalist for the National Book Award, and You Remind Me of Me, which was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications. Chaon's fiction has appeared in many journals and anthologies, including The Best American Short Stories, Pushcart Prize, and The O. Henry Prize Stories. He has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award in Fiction, and he was the recipient of the 2006 Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Chaon lives in Cleveland, Ohio, and teaches at Oberlin College, where he is the Pauline M. Delaney Professor of Creative Writing.

Jourdan Imani Keith is a playwright, naturalist, educator, and storyteller whose work blends the textures of political, personal and natural landscapes to offer voices from the margins of American lives. Keith has performed nationally and internationally, giving over 250 performances from Zimbabwe to Philadelphia, from Yellowstone to Seattle. Jourdan Keith has received awards from 4 Culture, Artist Trust, and Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs for Coyote Autumn and 2004 for the play and solo performance of The Uterine Files: Episode I, Voices Spitting Out Rainbows. She has received fellowships from Hedgebrook, Voices of Our Nations (VONA), and Jack Straw Writer's program. Her poems, essays and articles have appeared in magazines, newspapers, radio, television and video, including The Seattle Times, Labyrinth, PUSH, Floating Bridge Press, Seattle Woman, and the anthology, Ma-Ka, Diasporic Juks, writings by Queers of African Descent. Jourdan Keith is Founder and Director of Urban Wilderness Project.

About Northwind Reading Series - a program of monthly (or more frequent) readings by local and guest authors, featuring both poets and prose writers. Everyone is welcome to attend these free readings. The readings begin at 7:00 pm in Northwind Arts Center unless otherwise stated. Northwind readings are free, though donations of $5 are gladly accepted to support Northwind Arts Center, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that sponsors visual, musical and literary art events and education on the Olympic Peninsula.
