Boat Design Course

LOCATION: Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, Port Hadlock

The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding is now enrolling for its annual Boat Design course beginning this January. The course will introduce students to the art and science of boat and yacht design. Students will study theory and engage in practical lab exercises with the goal of developing basic skills in naval architecture. The emphasis in this 66-hour course is in understanding the parameters of vessel design and gaining familiarity with common calculations and design ratios and co-efficients. The course is taught by renowned Port Townsend boat designer Carl Chamberlain. The course is attended by students enrolled in the School’s full time boatbuilding programs, but is also open to the public. No prerequisites required. The course takes place January 13-March 26, 2009, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30pm. The tuition cost is $595.00.
