Event Detail:

The Light Inside Dark Times with author and storyteller Michael Meade
November 06, 2009 - November 06, 2009
STARTS: 7:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Quimper Unitarian Universalist Church ~ 2333 San Juan Ave, Port Townsend, WA

Author and mythologist Michael Meade brings his vital blend of storytelling, poetry and discussion to Port Townsend on Friday, November 6th, 7 pm at the Quimper Unitarian Universalist Church. Meade reviews environmental disasters, economic crises, and social confusion through the elegant, in-depth lens of myth and story.

In this compelling and dynamic evening Meade will address the financial downturn and economic collapse from the view of the soul and against the background of myth and meaningful cultural change.

"When all the news seems bad and getting worse, the mind falters and even the spirit can fail to light the way. Secretly, our souls seek wisdom and wisdom is a darker knowledge found in dark places and in dark times." - Michael Meade

A New York native with a razor sharp wit, Meade's insights are especially valuable since they have been hard won through decades of work in the trenches of mentoring youth, visiting prisons, assisting war veterans and fostering dialogues between genders and races. Through story, poetry and discussion, he is able to find common ground on hostile turf, working with Chicago gangs, in 'barrios' in LA, on Native American reservations and with Sudanese refugees.

"Michael Meade is magical and profound, unlike anyone else one is likely to encounter. A gifted writer, Meade is one the greatest living teachers of our time." Alice Walker - Author of The Color Purple
