First Friday Storynight: A Night of Story and Music
November 6, 2009 – 7-9pm
Better Living Through Coffee
100 Tyler St., Port Townsend, WA 98368
Starting in November, Better Living Through Coffee and local storyteller Brian Rohr will host First Friday Storynight: A Night of Story and Music. This monthly event will explore the art and ritual of the oral tradition: sharing the old myths, folk tales, and fairy tales along with more modern stories and personal sharings. Showcased will be local and visiting storytellers, musicians and weavers of magic with words. Each month, there will be two to three featured tellers, and space for guests in the audience to share a story or two during the open mic sections.
This month's Storynight will feature local musician and storyteller Aime Ringel and host Brian Rohr. Please bring your stories for our open mic section… only rule is no reading, everything must be shared in the ways of the oral tradition.
About the Artists:
Brian Rohr is a poet, storyteller and healing arts practitioner living here in Port Townsend, WA. A student of local master Storyteller Daniel Deardorff, Brian has shared myth from different cultures to national and international audiences. He believes that the old stories are alive, vital and can inform us on how to live our lives as authentic human beings.
Aimee Ringle is a musician, storyteller and dancer who recently transplanted to Port Townsend from Decorah, Iowa. There she spent several happy years learning how to cultivating community through music, story, dance, and good food and has been doing much of the same here since she stepped off the Keystone ferry in May. She finds there's nothing like an active and vibrant community to keep an artist busy in one place and has collaborated with fellow musicians, dancers, painters, photographers, actors, farmers, and entire families - composing music for weddings, dance, childrens theatre, and film. Aimee has been a story teller all her life but just began studying the craft in earnest about a year ago. Friday will be her first public storytelling!
